I need a new control surface (Faders)
« on: July 11, 2016, 03:21:01 PM »

My last motor mix died and I think it is time to move on, but to what?  I have a X-touch and no complaints except that it doesn't make sense to put another one next to it with all that extra stuff.

I would sell the X-touch and get two or three X-touch compacts but I understand the faders are not as good?

My dream would be 24 or 24 faders, solo, mute, and scribble strips. Nothing more needed.  I would even give up the scribble strips if everything else was good.

Thoughts?  Dreams?  Any of you guys building to order?

That's the first I've heard of any difference in the quality of faders between the X-touch and the X-touch compact.  I've seen them on display in a store but didn't pay that much attention to notice any difference in fader feel.  I figured it would all be the same fader...  X32 and all it's siblings, X-touch, X-touch compact...  etc....  for better or worse it looks like the same fader to me.  (at least they are significant improvement over the BCF)

The main difference to me is that the compact doesn't have the LCD scribble strip and is only USB, where the full size unit has the Ethernet connectivity.

I haven't done it yet but X-touch compact is where I'm heading.  Just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I found one review comparing the two and there is no mention of the faders being different so it is likely that you are right.  If so, I may have a used  X-touch for sale.  Stay tuned.

BTW I ran across this. http://iconproaudio.com/product/qcon-ex/  Simple, small, and full meters.  But 8 faders for $500 vs B 9 faders for $400

I've also eye balled these, as they are closer to what I really want, which is just 8 faders with mute, solo and select.

They say it has motorized faders.  But I wonder how they feel and how cramped it is.  It just looks cheap, but maybe it's nice who knows... since I've yet to see any mentions of it in reviews or the like.

I found a couple of videos that give an idea of how it works.  It looks like with replacement caps it is a good solid package

Yeah, that is weird and having to touch the fader in just the right spot would be a deal breaker for me.  So I would have to find other fader caps right off the bat.
